A Biblical Love Story (part one)

We often think of 'Valentines Day' as being fun and whimsical as with the above Peanut cartoon. But there is more to say about it then just celebrating it one day of the year, or even life being a fun cartoon.

I ran across the story of Ruth and Boaz recorded in the Bible this morning, and what a love story for us, it is.

It is quite long, but I think it is interesting from its author's viewpoint and the Bible, of coarse and so for the next several days, I am going to reprint it in parts. One for each day to the end.

Starting off will be the introduction, which can be found at:  The unique Love story of Ruth & Boaz - Good News of the Gospel Way, should you decide to go there to read the entire account before we reach the end of it here on my blog.

I hope you enjoy it, as did I.

The unique Love story of Ruth & Boaz

If you were to name some classic love stories you might suggest Helen of Troy & Paris (igniting the Trojan War dramatized in the Iliad), Cleopatra and Mark Antony (whose love entwined Rome in a civil war with Octavian/Augustus Caesar ), Romeo & Juliet, Beauty & the Beast, or perhaps Cinderella & Prince Charming.  In them, history, pop culture and romantic fiction come together in offering passionate love stories that captivate our hearts, emotions and imaginations.

Ruth & Boaz Love Story

Amazingly, the love that sparked between Ruth & Boaz has proved far more enduring and noble than any of these love affairs, and in fact, still affects the lives of all the billions of us living today – more than three thousand years after these lovers met.  Their romance is also a picture of a mystical and spiritual love offered to you and me.  The story of Ruth and Boaz deals with cross-cultural & forbidden love, immigration and the relationship between a powerful man and a vulnerable woman – applicable in today’s #MeToo era.  It becomes a blueprint for us on how to establish a healthy marriage.  By any of these measures the love story of Ruth & Boaz is worth knowing.

Their love is recorded in the Book of Ruth in the Bible.  It is a short book – only 2400 words long – and is well worth reading (here).  It is set about 1150 BCE, making this the oldest of all recorded love stories.  It has been made into several films.

My soul, wait only on God!

My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him. He only is my rock and my salvation, he is my defense, I shall not be moved. In God is my salvation and my glory, the rock of my strength, and my refuge is in God.  Psalm 62:5-7

Hear my cry, O God; attend to my prayer. From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the Rock that is so much higher then I. For thou has been a shelter for me and a strong tower from the enemy. I will abide in thy tabernacle forever trust in the covert of thy wings. Selah. Psalm 61:1-4

🙏

There are people in our lives, that even those that don't mean to-will let us down. There are many incidents that we count on throughout our lives that don't turn out the way we hope.

But there is one person that we can completely depend on in all situations, if we we put our trust in Him alone, above all else.

 Jesus Christ!!

He is our Rock and our Salvation, because of what he did for us that day, so long ago at Calvary!

Thank you Jesus, for what you did for me!

Thanks for coming by today, Friends! Have a blessed day!

He is Able...

That he would grant you, according to his riches in glory, to be strengthened with his might by his spirit in the inner man. That God may dwell in by faith; that you being rooted and grounded in love, that Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth and height; And to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge, that you might be filled with the love of God. Now to him that is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, unto him be the church by Jesus Christ throughout the ages, world without end. Amen. Ephesians 3:16-21

Thanks for stopping by. May God bless you ! above all that you may as or think, today and everyday!

Be Patient and Wait

And he shall bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your judgement as the noonday. Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for him: do not worry because of he that prospers in evil ways. Stop being angry and do not worry or do evil. Evildoers will be cut off, but those that wait on the Lord, will inherit the earth. For yet a little while and the wicked shall not be, and you will consider his place and it shall not be. But the meek will inherit the earth and delight in the abundance of peace. Psalm 37:6-11

Psalms 37:6 -And He Shall – No Mommy Left Behind

Those of us that have been born again into God's kingdom are to be patient for a time until Jesus comes back to take those that are still on earth back to heaven with him. The wicked will cease to be among us and will go on to their own punishment. Waiting for this to take place can be difficult as we watch the world and consider the way it i going. They may be prospering now but they are on their way to a place we do not want to be. But we must hold on and wait on the Lord because he will come and we who endure to the end will be saved.  Mathew 24:13

Thanks for coming by, Friends. Have a blessed day, as always!

Why Haven't You Answered Me, God?

Do not constantly worry because of evildoers, and do not envy those that are immoral. For they shall soon be cut down like the grass and wither. Trust in the Lord and do good; so you may dwell in the land and be fed. Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; and he will bring it to pass. Psalms 37:1-5

We sometime wonder why we don't get our prayers answered soon after we ask God for something. We may even get a bit 'touchy' with God when he makes us wait. Or when it looks like we aren't going to get what we want at all.

There are many reasons for him to delay, but he always answers.

It may be because we are envious of people that have what we want, but they are getting it in immoral ways. Perhaps we are not trusting him, or committing our ways to him, as these verses in Psalms tell us we should do.

Or there could be other reasons why God does not give us what we want, when we want them Frankly, God does not even owe us an explanation other then he knows what is best for us, and he truly wants to give us the desires of our hearts. But it has to be in his time, and his way. Because as we know from that old tv program back in the 1950's, "Father Knows Best."

And our heavenly Father...well our earthly fathers may sometimes not know what is best for us, but God our Father does. Always.

Thanks for coming, Friends. Have a blessed new week.

Let Us Rejoice!

This the day that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it. Save now, I beg thee, O Lord. send now prosperity. Blessed be he, that comes in the name of the Lord: we have blessed you out of the house of the Lord. God is the Lord, which has showed us the light; bind the sacrifice with cords even unto the horns of the altar. Thou are my God, and I will praise thee; thou art my Go and I will exalt thee. O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good; for his mercy endures for ever. Psalm 118:24-29

Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, al ye lands. Serve the Lord with gladness; come before his presence with singing. Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise; be thankful unto him and bless his name. For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endures to all generations. Psalm 100:1-5

Thanks for stopping by Friends. God bless you on this his 'Lords' Day!
