A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; Ecclesiastes 3:7
Definition of rend: tear (something) into two or more pieces.
This tearing and mending probably refer to the Jewish practice of tearing one’s garments during a time of grief or repentance (2 Samuel 13:31; Ezra 9:5).
God expects us to sorrow and grieve during bereavement but not like unbelievers who have no hope (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18). At times we must get out of the needle and thread and start mending.
💔💔💔
I was watching a tv program the other evening about a woman whose daughter was murdered by her husband, who had been a longtime friend of the family as well.
At his trial, the mother stated in tears that she would never forgive the husband for taking her daughter out of their lives.
If she had lived in Bible days, she might have rendered her clothing. Or at least would have wanted to.
Now we can be grief striken at our losses and there is a time for that.
As God's people, we can be comforted by Him even during those times and as time passes, we can let Him mend our broken hearts.
Of course, there is sometimes the anger that can come with those losses, but there is hope there too. That is, letting go of the anger and unforgiveness, although not easy, it can also sew up those times and become new to move forward knowing that God is in control.
And He has the whole picture.
Thanks for coming by, Friends. Have a blessed day.
