Listen to My Father? Really?

This scripture speaks of not just the fathers here, but to the mothers too.

Listen to your father, who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old. Proverbs 23L22

Whether we want to admit it or not, God gave us life. Through our parents.

As a teenager about 12 or maybe 13 years old, I had gotten into an argument one day with my dad. I don't remember what it was about, but I was mad about something. I think it was over something that he would not let me do. And for one of the only times I can ever remember, I shouted at him.

"I didn't ask to be born!" I had said in anger.

What was his reaction?

He answered,

"Well, I didn't ask to be born either, Becky."

And he calmly chuckled as he said that.

Well whatever it was, I did not get my way that day. But, looking back on that and other occasions it did not matter. My dad knew best what was good for me. God had given me life through him and he raised me the very best that he could.

Perhaps your father didn't do such a good job. But can you at least give God thanks that were it not for your father, you would not be here?

Despite any and all weaknesses that prevented your dad from being a good parent, you can find peace with the fact that God did use him to bring you into the world. Start with that in your mind. Thank God that He used this man. And your mother as well. Because guess what?

God had a purpose for bringing you into this world.

And...

Without the three of them, you and I would not exist.

Thanks for coming today, Friends. Til next time, be blessed
