If God is in control...(part eight)

...What hope do we really have?

The Preserving Love of God

But when disasters happen, the real point is that they could happen to any of us at any time. It is only because God is love that one heartbeat follows another. He gives life and love to all. Every day, billions of people wake up to fresh air, warm sunshine, delicious food, and comfortable homes—because God is love, and He showers His blessings on the earth. We have no individual claim on life, however, as though we had created ourselves. We must acknowledge that we live in a world that is subject to death from a variety of sources. Calamities serve to remind us of the fact that apart from the salvation that Jesus offers, there is no hope for the human race. We can expect more and more destruction as we come closer to the time of His return to earth. “For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows” (Matthew 24:7-8, NKJV). But this also means that the time of our final rescue is near! “…The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.” (Romans 13:11, NIV).

Revelation 14:19

19 And the angel thrust in his sickle into the earth, and gathered the vine of the earth, and cast it into the great winepress of the wrath of God.

Meaning of Revelation 14:19

Revelation 14:19 describes a vivid prophetic vision in which an angel uses a sickle to gather the “grapes” of the earth and throw them into the “great winepress of the wrath of God” BibleRef.com+1. This imagery is rooted in ancient agricultural practices, where grapes were crushed in a winepress to produce wine, and the act of pressing symbolized the release of the juice — here, blood — representing the consequences of sin.

Symbolism of the Imagery

  • The sickle represents God’s authority and the final act of judgment, as in the harvest of the earth Bible Hub+1.

  • The grapes symbolize the people of the earth — both the faithful and the unrepentant — who will be gathered for final reckoning BibleRef.com+1.

  • The winepress is a well-known biblical metaphor for God’s judgment, recalling passages like Isaiah 63:2–4, where God “treads the winepress alone” and “spatters their lifeblood” BibleRef.com.

  • The “wrath of God” indicates the full, irreversible judgment that will be poured out on those who have rejected God Bible Hub+1.

Thanks for coming by today, Friends. Have a blessed day!
