Trusting in Jesus (16)

7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and everyone that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.

He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

Sometimes it doesn't seem possible to love some people. What is a Christian woman to do about a husband that is so unlovable at times, she wishes she never married him. Many files for a divorce. Many get bitter and coexist with him but don't love him.

I was one that got bitter and did stay married to him but wasn't happy with him.

It wasn't until I lost him unexpectedly to death, that I realized that I truly had loved him. We had been married 52 years and over those years we had some good times mixed in with the bad. But eventually we wandered off into our own bitter worlds.

And now, I wished that I had done something more to love his unlovable ways but couldn't because I had become unlovable right along with him.

I thank God that he is in Heaven with Jesus right now. And God has brought me through, taken care of me, and taught me a lot about mercy.

And love. His love. The kind of love that he wants us to give out to those around us. Possibly to those that are unlovable.  I have had the opportunities to help a couple of my good friends see things in a different light as they grabble with the pain and bitterness in their own lives with unlovable husbands.

I tell them: "Those fights and arguments may one day just become memories if you outlive him."       "They won't matter when he is gone because there will be so many. Is that the kind of memories you want?"

Of course, I know that they won't understand fully until they get there, if they do. But it will hit them then. And they will struggle with their part of the marriage that started out so good but then let them down.

If you are in a marriage like that, take heart. Nothing is forever this side of eternity. Marriage is hard work. Life is not easy. But God and His mercy is there when you need Him.

If what you are doing is not working, ask Him what will. As wives, you have the power of the Living God, that can transform your marriage, if you will let Him.

Thanks for coming today, Friends. God bless and know that I am praying for you, even those of you that I do not know.

And it will. Believe me.
