Life & Prosperity, Death & Destruction   (part 1)

I have written some things in recent months about why God lets bad things happen to good people,
and how evil came into the world. Did you know that God himself says he will bring life and prosperity, death and destruction? Why would God, who created this beautiful world, with plants, and animals, and.....people, then promise these things to us. Reading in Deuteronomy 30:15-20 we find out why.

15 See, I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction.16 For I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, and to keep his commands, decrees and laws; then you will live and increase, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land you are entering to possess.
17 But if your heart turns away and you are not obedient, and if you are drawn away to bow down to other gods and worship them, 18 I declare to you this day that you will certainly be destroyed. You will not live long in the land you are crossing the Jordan to enter and possess.
19 This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against youthat I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live 20 and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the Lord is your life, and he will give you many years in the land he swore to give to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
You see, the Israelites in the Old Testaments had been wandering in the wilderness for 40 years after being freed from the Egyptian slavery they had been under, by Moses. And now Moses  (and God) was taking them to the Promised Land. In chapter 28, Moses promised them blessings if they would obey God's commandments. But he warned them of what would happen if they disobeyed. (Deut.28:15-68)
There was nothing to stand in the way of God's blessings, as long as they obeyed Him. But did they? They had already rebelled. Moses had received the 10 Commandments to which they had agreed. And then Moses had returned to Mt. Sini and he spent 40 days there. But when he came down from Mt. Sini, the Israelites had used gold jewelry to make an Alter in which to worship and sacrifice to a different god. After which, the Bible says they then corrupted themselves." (Exodus 32:7)
This golden calf infuriated God. He wanted to destroy the Israelites. but Moses asked him not to.(Deuteronomy(:13-14)
God then commanded that each man strap a sword to their sides and go kill others in the camp. And so the Levites did. And about 3000 died that day. The ones that were left were blessed by God. The next day Moses went up to the Mount to atone for their sins. God nevertheless did punish them. (Deuteronomy 32:27-35)
So what was it? Were they blessed by God after they had sinned? Or were they cursed? Find out in the next part to be installed on 1/18.

Thought and cartoon for the day: If Moses would have had the technology today that we have do you suppose he would have had as much trouble working with computers as sometimes we (or I should say I do?) lol.
