Today's Truthful Minute

I"Even though I walk through the valley of death, I fear no evil, for YOU are with me: Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me"

...thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me. Psalm 23:4

Sheep, are a funny species of animals. Pretty dumb, some would say. Actually, they are interesting to read about. If you like that sort of thing.

But, the purpose of today's post, is not to go into all you can learn about them. However, if you would like to do that, I would point you here, to get a better idea of their nature, as a place to start and some of the following information below is found there.

A Shepherd Looks At Psalm 23 _"THY ROD AND THY STAFF THEY COMFORT ME"

And instead, give you just a bit about them, in relation to the type of tools that a shepard would use when he is out in the field with them.

I mentioned that sheep are basically dumb animals. At least that is what I learned years ago when we lived up north in the country where there were farmers that had flocks of sheep. My three sons had even raised them one year for 4-H.

The first and last time that they ever wanted anything ever to do with them, I assure you.

But I digress.

So back to today's post.

Did you know that we as humans can be much like sheep?

Just like them at times, we can get into some of the most precarious situations. And dangerous ones, as well.

The rod and staff that a shepard used or would use, has different uses. Following, are some of those uses:

The rod:

An instrument for defense to ward off danger for himself and his flock. It was used to drive off predators and it was also used to discipline a wayward sheep that was wandering away from the group.

The Staff

It is was, or is used for the shepards comfort. It aids in support. It draws the sheep together into a relationship and brings the newborn sheep to its mother when they are separated. He uses it to guide the sheep around dangerous routes or loosen them from thorny bushes.

So as you can see, those items were important in bible days when people didn't have modern tools perhaps like they do today.

Jesus likens himself as our Shepard because we aren't always as smart as we should be in our lives. And yet, just as a shepard over sheep, he is ready to take care of us, and protect us from the evils of this world. Always, ready to pull us back into the fold

"together, the rod and staff of Psalm 23 paint a picture of the divine Shepherd who wields them. He is strong, competent, and trustworthy; He is present with His sheep, able to defend them and watching over them through all the dangers they face. Knowing that we have such a Shepherd who is ready to protect us from danger, keep us close, and rescue us when we go astray truly is a great comfort to us, the sheep"    What are the rod and staff in Psalm 23? | GotQuestions.org

Yes, David painted the perfect picture of Jesus. And one that I think reminds us that during the hard times of life and even the very end of it, he will be there to see us get to where we have longed to go when our time comes.

Thanks for stopping by today, Friends. God bless you!
