22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
A few weeks ago, I was visiting a relative and she had a pastor on tv preaching a sermon. He said that we need to "practice" our faith. And that is what "doing" the word is.
It is not enough to just know what God says. We must not only hear what He is saying, we then much practice it. For example, when He tells us to cast all of our burdens on Him, He wants us to trust Him, knowing He is working our problems out when we ask Him to, but then to leave it there and not keep worrying about them by constantly going back wringing our hands and crying over them.
In that way, we not only know He is working, but we are not deceiving ourselves by letting things slide by and thinking that He is not working in them.
Also, when we learn to do this on a regular basis, we are maturing in our faith.
And friends, that brings relief to our souls because we are giving everything to God, who knows what we need in all situations.
