14 Saying to the sixth angel which had the trumpet, Loose the four angels which are bound in the great river Euphrates.

15 And the four angels were loosed, which were prepared for an hour, and a day, and a month, and a year, for to slay the third part of men.

Historical and Symbolic Interpretations

Some commentators interpret the four angels as leaders or powers historically associated with the Euphrates region, such as the four principal sultanies of the Turks and Othmans, whose conquests affected large parts of the Eastern Roman (Byzantine) Empire and surrounding territories Bible Hub. The “third part of men” slain is sometimes understood as the subjugation or devastation of these regions over a long period, with the symbolic timing corresponding to historical events spanning centuries Bible Hub.
The passage also carries a prophetic and symbolic meaning, representing God’s judgment on human sinfulness and the unleashing of destructive forces at His appointed time.
