The Second Coming of Jesus Christ: What About the Angels? (part seven)

Will the angels come back with Jesus?

The Bible says that the angels will return with Jesus and they will come with a loud sound of the trumpet to gather from the whole earth those who have died in Christ. (Matt 16:27; 24:31; 25:31)

9 And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit.

2 And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit.

3 And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power.

4 And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads.

5 And to them it was given that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion, when he striketh a man.

6 And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them. Revelation 9:1-4

Revelation 9:1-6 depicts the fifth trumpet judgment, where demonic locusts emerge from the bottomless pit to torment those without God’s seal, symbolizing divine judgment and the consequences of sin.

Overview of the Passage

In Revelation 9:1-6, the fifth angel sounds his trumpet, signaling the release of a star fallen from heaven, given the key to the bottomless pit. When the pit is opened, smoke rises like a great furnace, darkening the sun and air, and from the smoke come locusts with the power of scorpions. These locusts are commanded to torment only those without God’s seal for five months, causing intense suffering without killing them. During this time, people will seek death but will not find it, highlighting the severity of God’s judgment (Revelation 9:1-6) godsbless.ing+2.

Symbolism and Interpretation

  • The Star Fallen from Heaven: This figure is often interpreted as a fallen angel or Satan, representing spiritual authority over the abyss and the unleashing of evil forces. The “key to the bottomless pit” symbolizes control over the confinement of demonic powers, emphasizing God’s sovereignty even over evil (Revelation 20:1-3) godsbless.ing+1.

  • The Bottomless Pit and Smoke: The pit represents a place of confinement for evil spirits. The smoke darkening the sun and air symbolizes the obscuring of truth and the pervasive influence of evil during this judgment godsbless.ing+1.

  • The Locusts: These are not literal insects but symbolic agents of torment. They resemble scorpions in their power to sting, and their purpose is to inflict suffering on unrepentant humanity. They avoid harming vegetation, indicating that the judgment is directed specifically at people rather than the natural world godsbless.ing+2.

  • Torment Without Death: The five-month period of torment illustrates the intensity of suffering and the inescapable nature of divine judgment. People’s desire for death, which is denied, underscores the psychological and spiritual anguish of sin and rebellion against God (Romans 6:23; Deuteronomy 32:39) Bible Hub.

Theological Significance

Revelation 9:1-6 emphasizes several key themes:

  1. God’s Sovereignty: Even the forces of evil operate under God’s authority, demonstrating His ultimate control over judgment and the end times thebiblesays.com.
  2. Consequences of Sin: The passage vividly portrays the results of rebellion and unrepentance, serving as a warning to align with God’s will godsbless.ing+1.
  3. Spiritual Warfare: The imagery reflects the cosmic struggle between good and evil, highlighting the reality of spiritual conflict in the end times godsbless.ing+1.
  4. Call to Repentance: The torment of the unsealed serves as a reminder of the importance of faithfulness and obedience to God, urging reflection and spiritual renewal godsbless.ing+1.

Conclusion

Revelation 9:1-6 presents a dramatic vision of the fifth trumpet judgment, using symbolic imagery to convey the severity of God’s wrath against unrepentant humanity. The fallen star, the bottomless pit, and the locusts illustrate the unleashing of spiritual forces under God’s authority, while the torment without death emphasizes the profound consequences of sin. This passage calls readers to recognize God’s sovereignty, the reality of spiritual warfare, and the necessity of repentance and faithfulness.

💘💘💘

Good afternoon, Friends. I hope you are having a great day. I just want to thank those of you that are praying for me  per yesterdays request. I can tell you are because I have not had any problem with today's post. I ask that you will remember me everyday, if you will. I know that the enemy does not want God's Word to go forth. Especially on this particular topic. And I thank you in advance for that.

At any rate, have a wonderful rest of your day and God bless you
