Hospitality

How to Pray Through the Entire Year – One Month at a Time

 Dec 29, 2025

July is often filled with gatherings with family and friends. This is a wonderful month to focus your prayers on hospitality. Pray that God would lead you to opportunities to use your resources (like your time, your money, and your home) to bless others. Romans 12:13 encourages you to: “Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.” Don’t worry about how big your home is or how clean and organized it is. If you’re not able to host people well at home, you can host them somewhere else, like at a park or at a restaurant. What’s most important with hospitality is just having an open heart to welcome and serve people. Ask for the spiritual gift of generosity and a heart that’s eager to serve.

Pray for the wisdom to discern where God wants you to invest your hospitality efforts. You can volunteer regularly for a community organization, invite people from your church to go out to lunch with you after a worship service, or reach out to someone who is lonely and invite that person to meet you somewhere to talk and get to know each other better. Praying for hospitality in July can help you develop a closer relationship with God by letting God’s love flow through your life and into other people’s lives.

This one was always a hard one for me. Because for years we lived in a mobile home and it was crowded with my husband and myself and our four children. Thankfully, time and events change sometimes for the good and though my current home is not huge or extravagant, it is comfortable enough for me to have my now adult children and their children and friends as well, to come and enjoy the holidays or other events with me.

This author points out that if we are unable to provide our home for this purpose, there are other ways and places that can be used.

Of course, money is another matter as well.

The idea is that the verse in Romans does say to be hospitable to people. It is a good way to serve, to get to know people, and to show God's love to them. It is something that I have had to learn over the years because for many of those years, I did not have the ability to provide this because of our circumstances.

How about you?

Are you able to share with others in this way?

If not, pray about how you can. God can open up ways for you to provide hospitality to those around you.

Sometimes they can come in as simple as a picnic, or a potluck.

Thanks for coming by today, Friends.

Have a blessed day.
