Above him stood seraphim, each having six wings. With two wings they covered their faces, with two wings they covered their feet, with two wings they were flying. And they called out to one another, "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts. His glory fills all the earth.." Isaiah 6:2-3
Most of us have heard/song the hymn "Holy, holy, holy. Lord God Almighty" in church. But what does that mean? Why is important that we see God as being that holy?
According to Isaiah 6:3 Commentary - John Gill's Exposition of the Bible, it recognizes there is one God above all, but he is part of the triune God. God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Ghost.
Isaiah was the firsthand witness of God's holiness through his vision in Isaiah 6:2-3. He was God's prophet and was righteous but his reaction to his vision was to become aware of his own sinfulness and hopelessness. Even the angels in God's presence covered their faces and their feet with their wings. They are our examples that we are sinful and unworthy, and need to recognize God as being truly Holy.
The threefold repetition of Holy, holy, holy cried out by the angels was an expression of force and passion the truth of God's holiness. And finally, his holiness is eternal because he is the same yesterday, today and forever. Hebrews 13:8.

In and of ourselves we know we are not holy. We are not righteous. We can claim and become that only when we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. Just as Isaiah saw in his vision, he was hopeless without God. We will never obtain the level of holiness of him, but as we continue to grow in his grace, we are transformed into his image through the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives.
We too must be passionate just as the angels were, that God is so holy that we cry it out to him that he is indeed HOLY, HOLY, Holy! Because He IS!
