Psalm 43: Thirsting for God

42 As the hart (male deer) pants after the water brooks, so pants  my soul after thee, O God.

My soul thirsts for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?

My tears have been my meat day and night, while they continually say unto me, where is thy God?

When I remember these things, I pour out my soul in me: for I had gone with the multitude, I went with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with a multitude that kept holyday.

Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.

O my God, my soul is cast down within me: therefore, will I remember thee from the land of Jordan, and of the Harmonies, from the hill Mizar.

Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterspouts: all thy waves and thy billows are gone over me.

Yet the Lord will command his lovingkindness in the day time, and in the night his song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life.

I will say unto God my rock, Why hast thou forgotten me? why go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?

10 As with a sword in my bones, mine enemies reproach me; while they say daily unto me, Where is thy God?

11 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.

There is a good chance you are depressed today. You might feel sad about something that has happened. You might feel like the world has gone crazy. (it has) You might feel like everything in the world, and your life is out of control.
David felt that way.
He had good reason to.
But here we find Davids deep longing for God even though he is depressed.
His soul is cast down.
And sometimes, so our own souls get that way.
What should we do in those times?
David answers that in the very first verse.
He thirsts after God. Pursues God Him.
Longs for Him.
Just like the deer looking for water.
We should look for God.
Not only in good times.
But those depressing times.
In those "cast down" times.
When we do that...
God promises to be found. (Proverbs 8:17)
And that is the difference between those that do not know Jesus.
And those that do.
Because He is our hope.
No matter what is going on in the world.
And in our own backyards.
Thanks for coming by today, Friends.
God bless!
