Who Was He?

We could spend a lifetime studying the Bible and never understand it all, and always learning new things.
That's what I thought when I first read this prayer in Proverbs 30.
It was a man by the name of Agur the Son of Jakeh.
But who was Agur the Son of Jakeh?
Well, this is what I found out about him from gotquestions.org:

Proverbs 30:1 says the chapter’s words are “the sayings of Agur son of Jakeh.” Agur was writing “to Ithiel and Ucal” (NAS); these men could have been disciples or friends of Agur, although some Bibles translate the meaning of the two names with the assumption that they do not refer to actual people. Most commentators believe Agur lived in the same era as Solomon. We don’t know much about Agur except what we can glean from this one chapter.

The name Agur comes from a Hebrew word meaning “collector.” Agur and Jakeh are only mentioned here in the Bible and are otherwise unknown.

Agur’s proverbs offer insight regarding his thoughts on life. Agur was weary and worn out (verse 1), he did not consider himself wise (verses 2–4), and he considered God’s words completely true (verses 5–6). In Proverbs 30 Agur expresses to God a request that the Lord remove lying from him and give him neither riches nor poverty (verses 7–9).

Agur’s teachings include a warning not to slander servants (verse 10) and an observation that many people see themselves as better than they really are (verses 11–14). Agur then begins a numbered list of sayings that includes three things never satisfied (the barren womb, the land’s need for water, and the end of a fire, verses 15–16). Verse 17 adds that the person who mocks his parents will experience judgment.

Verses 18–19 list four things beyond Agur’s understanding: an eagle in the sky, a serpent on a rock, a ship on the seas, and a man with a woman. In verses 21–23 is a list of four things that cause the earth to tremble: a slave who becomes king, a well-fed fool, an unloved married woman, and a servant who replaces the wife in the household. Verses 24–28 note four small things that are very wise: ants, rock badgers, locusts, and lizards. Verses 29–31 specify four proud things: a lion, a rooster, a goat, and a king with his army. Verses 32–33 advise that, if you have been foolish in exalting yourself, you need to stop; also, prodding someone to anger is unwise.

These simple yet profound observations on life reveal many aspects of this otherwise unknown man named Agur. For example, Agur realized God’s wisdom was greater than his own. He understood the temptation of riches. He knew many aspects of life and of God’s creation would remain a mystery beyond his understanding. And Agur knew the importance of controlling anger, avoiding foolishness, and living for God. He encourages his readers to refrain from a life that dishonors God and results in judgment. Rather, Agur promotes living life with a proper fear of God and concern for other people.

We wonder why God would want to include people in His word that He didn't give us more information about?
And yet, Agur had an understanding of life and how he did not want to live it. He had an understanding of God, and that God could keep him safe from the evilness that he didn't want to be a part of.
There are no grand stories about him as when God created our world.
Or how Noah and his family were saved from the flood when so many weren't.
Or how Paul came to know Jesus.
Instead, we were just given a tidbit about this man and what he stood for. What he asked God for.
That was enough to get him into God's word.
And that is what our own prayers should be at times.
God wants to answer our prayers according to His purpose in glory.
But this kind of prayer is as important as any we can ask God for.

Good morning, Friends. Thanks for coming.
May you have a wonderful blessed day in Jesus Name!

Genesis 28:15

And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of. Genesis 28:15

Today's scripture holds true for us today just as it did when God promised Jacob that He would always be with him.
It's a promise we can take to our heavenly bank of promises from God's Word.
When we are at our saddest.
When we are at our absolutely worst.
God promises to never leave us.
He will stick with us until what He has started in us has been accomplished.
If only we can remember this promise when those times hit us sometimes all of a sudden.
For those of us that know Christ.
Look ahead.
Not in the past.
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God Hebrews 12:2
For if Jesus had just looked at the past, we would not be able to have pardon for our sins.
And what mercy that is for you and me.

Thanks for stopping by today, Friends.
In yesterdays post, I said I was going to look into the prayer in Proberbs 30.
Today being church day plus being with my family, I am unable to do that
Hopefully,  I will have it for tomorrow's post.
In the meantime,  have a peaceful night!

Proverbs 30:7-9

Two things have I required of thee; deny me them not before I die:

Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me:

Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the Lord? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain.

This prayer is the only one recorded in the book of Proverbs.

Who was praying it? I don't know and so I plan try to find out and post it in tomorrows blog.

However, he was thinking of the time of his own death. and was asking God to help him stay away from anything that would interrupt his relationship to Him. And he also was asking God for his own daily needs. Not his needs for tomorrow, or next week. But for that day.

I saw on YouTube again this week where in Kennth Copelands church, he is very proud of the fact that he is and likes "being very rich."  Jesse Duplantis has said that if Jesus came today, he would probably not be riding a donkey. He would be driving something much more expensive.

These "supposed men of God," sicken me.

Because they were the type of men that the person in the above prayer was asking God not to let him become.

They distort the gospel of Christ. They lie and they steal. And if that isn't enough, they are leading so many others away from Christ and straight for a place called hell.

Now please don't get me wrong. I don't believe it is a sin to have money and even be rich. However, if you are doing what those men as well as many others do, to get rich, well then that is what is wrong. Deadly wrong.

Friends, the greed in these people will be their downfall at some point. I do not want to be counted with them in my life.

I ask you, how about yourself?

Are you willing to pray as he did. For God to help you stay away from those things that someday could take you to a place that you do not want to be?

I hope so. Because asking God for our daily needs, and knowing God will provide them, should be enough for us.

Thanks for coming by Friends. Have a blessed day!

Zachariah 4:6

Not by might, not by power. But by My Spirit says the Lord Almighty.
Zechariah 4:6

Thank God we can depend on His Spirit to get us through the dark things or sad things we go through. My son is going through some of those things now. And I wish I could convince him that if he put his trust in God, the Spirit of the Living God would get him through.
Sadly some people want nothing to do with God. But I have not given up on him.
And neither has God.
Thanks for coming by today Friends.
And thank you for giving me time to disconnect for a few days, from here to get through my own trials.
God has been my comfort.
And I am so thankful that I do not go through my life alone.

Have a blessed evening!

Psalm 143

11 Quicken me, O Lord, for thy name's sake: for thy righteousness' sake bring my soul out of trouble.

12 And of thy mercy cut off mine enemies, and destroy all them that afflict my soul: for I am thy servant.

💗💗💗

Wrapping up this chapter in Psalms 143 we see simply that....

The Psalmist’s confidence that God will deliver His servant. (Credit: Bible Hub)

And as I have said before, in these times that we are not sure of what is to come, we need to have that same confidence in God as did David.

What is life like for those that do not know Him. I do not know and frankly, I do not want to know. I am ever thankful that no matter what happens, God is taking care of me.

How about you? Do you know? Do you have that kind of confidence?

I pray that you do.

Thanks for coming Friends. May God bless you and yours!

Psalm 143

Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God: thy spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprightness. Psalm 143:10

💘💘💘

David is still being pursued by his enemies and wants God to deliver him from them. He prays for God's guidance because he truly wants to do His will.
This should be our prayer as well.
Every step we take in this life should be guided by our heavenly Father.
Wanting to do His will.
No matter where He takes us.
Because when we do,
we will not be disappointed.
Thanks for coming by Friends.
Have a blessed day!

Psalm 143

Deliver me, O Lord, from mine enemies: I flee unto thee to hide me. Psalm 143:9

💕💕💕

Well, David is still hiding from those that would try to murder him. He knows that God is the only one that can save him.
If we learn anything from these verses, it is that David trusts God with his life.
Can we do the same?
To the degree that David did?
If we have never been in the kind of situation that David was, we might be at some point in our lives.
The world is getting darker.
Our Christian values hang in the balance.
Only God can deliver us.
We must learn to trust Him.
Just as David did.
Thanks for coming by today, Friends.
Have a blessed day!

Psalm 143

Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee. Psalm 143:8

💖💖💖

Have you ever had a bad night when it seemed like the problems of the day just spill over and won't let you sleep. I am sure David had those times as he hid away from his enemies that were trying to get to him.

But in this verse, he asks God to be near him because he put his trust in the One that he knew would take care of him.

To be honest, I am not sure if he still hiding from those trying to kill him. But he surely has been under some kind of distress.

And just like him, we can trust God, in our own distress as well.

I don't know about you, but the best time for me to get into God's word, is early in the morning. (Although sometimes I don't quite make it) Before the busyness of the day begins. Because as the night becomes morning, and the morning becomes day-if things get too busy, at least I will have spent time with God.

I think David understood that. He trusted God to show him what he should do next.

And that is how I want to live the rest of my life. Trust God to know what I need to do next in my life.

How about you? Are you trusting God for what is next in your life?

For it is only that, which can bring peace to us. Knowing that God is showing us the way to go.

Thanks for stopping by, Friends. May you have a peaceful day!
