Why the Women?

Today, I will begin to look at those questions that I have been asking about the accounts of the four gospels that were written by the disciples of Jesus. Please be patient with me during these posts, as they will probably not be answered in the order that I have written.

The first question today is this; Jesus had chosen 12 men to follow him throughout his ministry. Why then was Mary the first one that he appeared to after he had risen from the grave?

Jesus certainly valued women. He loved his own mother. And he wanted to make sure she was looked after, once he was dying on the cross. Much of his ministry was about showing mercy to those that had sinned, as with the woman at the well and the woman caught in adultery. There were women that had traveled with Jesus and his disciples supporting them financially and serving where they could. And some of these same women were with him at his crucifixion..

Let's face it, that time in history held little regard for the women of the day. It was a "man's world," if you will. And yet the four gospels, written by men gave their account by which women were the first that Jesus went to after he had been resurrected that day. Perhaps, written by any other men, they wouldn't have told the truth about this? Maybe.

But it had been related in the gospels. By men. It could not be disputed because it was the truth.

And, there is one thing we know. When Mary went to tell the disciples that Jesus had risen, what were their responses?

It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, and Mary the mother of James and other women that were with them which told these things to the apostles (that Jesus had risen from the dead) and their words seemed to them as idle tales and they believed them not. Luke 24:10-11

Aren't women often linked to gossip? It reminds me of seeing early tv programs years ago, where you would see 2 women in their back yards standing with a fence between them, chewing over the recent neighborhood stories about someone or other.

And in this account, that is what it really alluded to. Idle stories among the women. And yet, the apostles should have really expected it. Jesus had told them all along, that this was going to happen. Why didn't they believe it had?

Jesus went above and beyond what society thought about their women. And those women had the faith that led them to him as being the first ones to see that he was alive again. They didn't have to see nail prints or put their hands in his side to know he was their Lord. They just knew for a fact that he was.

As for the disciples, do you think that once they did realize it was Jesus, maybe they were embarrassed a bit? Maybe, But more then likely were they that they became just so thankful that he was there. Among them. With them. Loved by him. Called by him. Forgiven by him.

Their friend Jesus. He was Lord. He was their friend. He was indeed who he said he was. God's Son.

Hello Friends. Thanks for coming by today. There is more about Mary Magnalene and why perhapes she wasn't believed when she went to find the disciples. We will take a look at that the next time. Have a very blessed day!

John's Account/Questions

Bible Questions Answered by GotQuestions.org! Fast and accurate answers to all your Bible Questions!

We find that John's account of the death and Resurrection is also different from the rest of the disciples. Why? I do not know, but here are the questions that come up for me in his account.

Why didn't John mention the Last Supper, but instead started off with Jesus praying in the garden?

Jesus knew who they had come for. Himself. So why did he ask them who they were looking for?

Why did they fall backwards when Jesus said that he was who they were seeking?

Simon Peter was the disciple that John said had cut off the ear of the high priest's servants ear? Why didn't the others mention who had actually done this?

Why didn't John mention the fact that Judas had sold Jesus out?

Why was Pilate insisting that Jesus was innocent of all the charges being brought against him, in John's account?

If Jesus was innocent of the charges, why did Pilate allow him to be punished and then ultimately give him over to be crucified anyway?

Why did John not mention the fact that someone else helped Jesus carry his cross to Golgotha?

Why does John's account not mention the fact that Jesus was asking a disciple to look after his mother Mary?

Who was this disciple?

Why did John's account only mention the breaking of the legs of the others that hung on the cross that day?

Why was a spear thrust into the side of Jesus, and was not mentioned in the other accounts?

Why was Mary Magdalene the only one mentioned in John's account when she went to the tomb that morning?

Why didn't Mary Magdalene know who Jesus was when he appeared to her?

Why did John mention the fact that Peter saw the linen clothes and the folded head napkin? Why weren't they laying together and was it important?

Why did Thomas doubt that Jesus had risen from the grave? Why did he need proof?

At the end of John's account, he wrote this: Many are the signs truly did Jesus in the presence of the disciples that are not written in this book....will we ever get to know the rest of them?

Hello Friends. Next time I will have looked for questions we might want to know from Acts 1.
And then after that, I will go back to those that came up starting with Mathew, and try to start answering them. Please understand, I am not a bible scholar, nor do I pretend to be. The answers I find, will  have been researched before I present them to you, and I will provide links to where I find them. I hope you will come back so that we can learn together. Thanks for coming and have a blessed day.

The Account of Jesus' Death and Resurrection Acts 1

eb558fbbeb3378309e70ce811adb8399

...Jesus began to both do and teach until the day he was taken up, after that through the Holy Ghost, had given commandments unto his apostles whom he had chosen; to whom he had also shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs being seen of them forty days and speaking of the things pertaining to the Kingdom of God and being assembled together with them. commanded not to leave Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, saith ye, ye have heard of me. For truly, John baptized with water, but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost, not many days hence.

When they therefore were come together, they asked of him saying, "Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom of Israel?" And he said unto them,"It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father is put in his own power. But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost will come upon you: and ye shall be my witnesses. both in Jerusalem and in Judea, and in Samaria and into the most uttermost parts of the world.

And when he had said these things, while they beheld, he was taken up and a cloud received him out of their sight. And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold two men stood by them in white apparel, which also said, "Ye men of Galilee, why stand gazing up into the heaven? This same Jesus, which is taken up into heaven, shall come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven." Acts 1: 1-11

Jesus had been been seen by people, and been with his disciples for 40 days after being raised from the dead. There was no mistake of what had happened. The chief priests and rulers of the day could lie and fabricate all they wanted to, but that did not stop God from the plan that he had from the beginning of time. His plan for all humanity had taken its course, right up to this day. And there were too many witnesses that verified it that it could not be doubted.

Next up, some questions about the account of John and Acts. Hope you will be back. God bless!

John's Account of the Death and Resurrection of Jesus (part 4)

Mary Magdalene is one of the best-known characters in the New Testament, yet we know surprisingly little about her. . . . The primacy of her name in these accounts, the frequency of her mention, and her role on the morning of the Resurrection suggest that she was a prominent and respected disciple in the first century.

Through the eyes of John 20

Bodies that were crucified were not to remain on the cross on the Sabbath and so the Jews asked Pilate to have their legs broken and their bodies taken away. And so the soldiers did break their legs, first the two beside Jesus, and then Jesus last. But when they got to Jesus, they saw that he was already dead. And so they didn't break his legs. Instead a soldier with a spear pierced his side and blood and water came out. And they saw that scripture had been fulfilled that not of bone of his would be broken, but they looked on him that was pierced.

After this, Joseph of Arimathaea got permission from Pilate to take the body of Jesus away. He was a disciple of Jesus, secretly because he feared the Jews. He took the body and Nicodemus also came and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes about a 100 pounds in weight. And so they wound Jesus body in linen with the spices

On the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the sepulchre and found that the stone was rolled away from it. So she ran and found Peter and the other disciple who Jesus loved and told them they had taken the Lord out of the sepulchre and they didn't know where they laid him. And so they all ran back to the sepulchre and the other disciple had outrun Peter and got there first. He saw the linen clothes laying there but did not go in.

When Peter got there he did go in and saw the linen clothes laying there, but the napkin that had been around Jesus' head was not laying with them, but was "wrapped together in a place by itself." Then the other disciple that had gotten there first went in and saw for himself and believed.

"For as yet they knew not the scripture that he must rise again from the dead." And the disciples left and went to their own home.

But Mary stood outside of the sepulchre weeping and she stooped down looking into the sepulchre and she saw two angels sitting, one at the head and the other at the feet of where Jesus had laid. And they asked her why she was weeping. She told them that they have taken Jesus away and she did not know where they had taken him. And when she had said this, she turned and saw Jesus standing there, but did not recognize him.

He asked her why was she weeping and who was she looking for.

She thought he was the gardener and she asked him to tell her why he was and she would take him away.

Then Jesus said to her "Mary." And she turned to him and called him, "Master."

Jesus told her to not touch him for he had not yet gone to his Father but go to his brethren and tell them, "I ascend to my Father and to your Father and to my God, and your God."

Mary Magdalene went and told them that she had seen the Lord and told them what he had said to tell them. And that same evening, the doors were shut where the disciples were gathered, for fear of the Jews and Jesus came to them and said, "Peace be unto you." And he showed them his hands and side and they were glad they were with the Lord.  Jesus said again, "Peace be unto you. As my Father has sent me, so I send you." And when he said this, he breathed on them and said, "Receive ye, the Holy Ghost.Whoever sins you remit, they are remitted unto them; and whosoever sins ye retain, they are retained."

Now Thomas was not with the others that evening. When they had told him that they had seen the Lord, he told them that unless he saw the nail prints in his hands and put his fingers in the prints and his hand in his side, he would not believe it was Jesus.

Eight days later, they were all together behind the closed doors and suddenly Jesus was there again and said, "Peace be unto you." And he told Thomas to put his fingers in the nail prints and his hand in his side, and told him to not to be faithless but to be believing. And Thomas said, "My Lord, and my God."

Jesus said, Thomas, because you have seen me you have believed. Blessed are they that have not seen me, but have believed."

"Many are the signs truly did Jesus, in the presence of his disciples that are not written in this book. But these are written that you might believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that believing, you might have life through his name."

Hello Friends. While John ends his account at the end of this chapter, the account of what happens next so far as Jesus is concerned, goes on into Acts 1. Come back next time for that. In the mean time, have a really blessed day!

John's Account of Jesus' Death and Resurrection (part 3)

Soldiers cast lots over Jesus’ inner garment

Through the eyes of John 19

Pilate took Jesus and scourged him. The soldiers then made a crown out of thorns and put it on his head and put a purple robe on him. Then they said, "Hail the king of the Jews!" And smote them with their hands. Pilate took him before the people to again let them know that he found no fault in Jesus, but they still shouted, "Crucify Him!Crucify Him!" And so Pilate told them to take him, but again found no fault in him.But the people said to Pilate that they had a law that said he should die because he was calling himself the Son of God.  This made Pilate more afraid and he went into the judgement hall and asked Jesus where he came from, but Jesus didn't answer him. Pilate said to him, "Will you not speak to me? Do you not know that I have the power to crucify you?"

Jesus answered, "You would have no power, if it were not given to you unless it were given to you from above, therefore those that delivered me to you have the greater sin."

Pilate was about to go ahead and release Jesus but the people cried out saying, "If you let this man go you are not Caesar's friend and anyone that makes himself a king is against Caesar.

Pilate then took Jesus and sat down in the judgement seat in a place called Pavement, but in Hebrew was called Gabbatha.

It was in preparation for the Passover and Pilate said, "Behold your King!" But the people wanted him crucified and finally Pilate delivered him to be crucified and the people led him away.

He carried his cross to the place of the skull called Golgotha  And they crucified him and two others, one on each side of him. And Pilate wrote a title and put it on the cross. It said, Jesus King of the Jews. It was written in Hebrew, Greek and Latin. And then the chief priests said to Pilate, "Do not write King of the Jews, for I am King of the Jews."

But Pilate said, "I have written what I have written."

After they crucified Jesus, they divided up his clothes and cast lots for his coat.

The mother of Mary, his mother's sister, Mary Magdalene and Mary the wife of Cleophas were standing by the cross of Jesus. Jesus saw his mother and the disciple he loved, and said to his mother, "Woman, behold thy son!" And then to the disciple, said "Behold my mother.!" And from that time on, the disciple took her into his home.

After this, Jesus knew that all things he came to accomplish had been and he said, "I am thirsty."  Someone took a sponge and soaked it in vinegar and lifted it up to his mouth.

And then Jesus said, "It is finished." And he gave up the ghost.

Hello Friends. It was finished indeed. Or at least they thought it was. The Romans, the Jews, and Satan himself thought they would hear no more of the nonsense that Jesus had been preaching during his ministry. They were about to get a surprise and find that no, Jesus would not stay in the grave, but would rise from it, just what he had been preaching to them all along, and praise God, he is still alive! Have a blessed day!

God Bless You and Keep you. Long life will be your portion. Rejoice!!

John's Account of the Death and Resurrectiondid of Jesus part two )

An analysis of the the painting "Ecce Homo" or "Behold the Man" by artist Antonio Ciseri. Explanation focuses on the figure of Pontius Pilate's Wife in the Painting.Through the eyes of John 18

\Pilate went out to the people and asked them, "What charges are you bringing against this man?"
"If he were not a criminal we would not have him handed over to you." They replied.
8
"Take him yourselves and judge him by your own law." Pilate said.

"But we have no right to execute anyone," they objected. "This took place to fulfill what Jesus said about the kind of death he was going to die."

Pilate then went back into the palace and asked Jesus, "Are you king of the Jews?"

"Is that your own idea? Jesus asked, "Or 'did others talk to you about me?"

"Am I a Jew?" Pliate replied. "Your own people and chief priests have handed you over to me. What is it you have done?"

Jesus said, "My Kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders. But now my Kingdom is from another place."

"You are king, then!" said Pilate

."You say that I am a king. The fact is that I was born and came into the world was to testify to the truth. Everyone that is on the side of the truth listens to me."

"What is truth?"

Pilate then went out to the Jews that had gathered there. He told them he had no basis for charging him. But if that is what they wanted, for him to release one prisoner during Passover, did they want him to release Jesus?

They shouted for him to release Barabbas who had taken part of an uprising.

We Are Not In The Same Boat

Hello Friends. I have not said anything in light of what is happening in the world today concerning the  Cononavirus (COVID019). And in lieu of posting John's Account, part two for today, I am going to post something that a friend had sent me which I have found to be very fitting with what is going on around us. Actually, it could be for any bad situation we find ourselves in, but whoever wrote this did mean it for a time such as this. It gives us something to consider as we go on from today and beyond in our lives

We Are Not In The Same Boat
I heard that we are all in the same boat,
But its not like that.
We are in the same storm.
but not in the same boat.
Your boat may be shipwrecked,
and mine might not be.
Or vice versa.
For some quarantine is optional.
A moment of reflection,
of re-connection,
easy in flip flops,
with a cocktail or coffee.
For others,
this is a desperate financial
& family crisis.
For some that live alone,
they are facing endless loneliness.
While for others,
it is peace,
rest
&
time
with their mother, father, son's & daughters.
With the $600 weekly increase
in unemployment,
some are bringing more to their
households more money for their households, than they were working.'
Others are working more hours for less money due
to pay cuts or loss in sales.
Some families of four
just received $3400,
from the stimulus while other families of four saw $0
Some were concerned about getting certain candy for Easter,
while others were concerned there would be
enough bread, milk and eggs for the weekend.
Some want to go back to work,
because they don't qualify for unemployment,
and are running out of money.
Others want to kill
those that break
the quarantine.
Some are home spending 2-3 hours a day helping their child with
online schooling.
While others are spending
2-3 hours a day to educate their children
on top of a 10-12 hour workday.
Some have experienced the near death of the virus
some have already lost someone from it,
and some are not sure if their loved ones are going to make it.
Some have faith in God and expect miracles during this 2020.
Others say the worst is yet to come.
So Friends, we are not in the same boat.
We are going through a time,
when our perceptions and needs
are completely different.
Each of us will emerge
in our own way, from this storm
to see what is seen at first glance.
Not just actually seeing we are all on different
ships during this storm
experiencing a very different journey.
---writer unknown

Friends, I can only add to this, that the best ship to be on is the one that has Jesus as it's Captain.
Mark 4:35-41 tells us that when we trust in Him, he can and will calm whatever storms we are going through. What kind of boat are you on today? Are you trying to sail your own and find yourself sinking. Perhaps you feel like you might as well just jump over and get it over with. I am here to tell you that if you let Jesus into your boat and take over as your Captain, he will not let you sink and instead he will become the Anchor that will hold your boat secure. NO MATTER what storms you are going through. How about it? Do you have him in your boat?
God Bless

John's Account of the Death and Resurrection of Jesus (part one)

An analysis of the the painting "Ecce Homo" or "Behold the Man" by artist Antonio Ciseri. Explanation focuses on the figure of Pontius Pilate's Wife in the Painting.

Through the eyes of John 18

Jesus had just been praying to his Father. When he had finished, he and disciples went over the brook Cedron to a garden. Judas knew of the place and he brought some men, and officers of the chief priests and Pharisees carrying lanterns and touches and weapons with them.

Jesus knew that they had come for him, but he asked, "Whom do you seek?" They answered, "Jesus of Nazareth." And Jesus replied, "I am he." As soon as he said that, they fell backward to the ground.
Jesus asked them again, who it was they were seeking. And again, they answered, "Jesus of Nazareth."

Jesus said, "I have told you that I am he. If therefore you seek me, let these go their way."

Simon Peter then drew his sword and cut off the high priests servant's right ear. The servants name was Malchus. Jesus told Peter to put the sword in his sheath, for the cup that his Father had given him, he must drink it."

And then the captain and officers of the Jews bound Jesus and took him first to Annas who was the father in law to Caiaphas, which was the high priest that year.

Caiaphas was who gave counsel to the Jews, that one man should die for the people.

Simon Peter and another disciple that was known to the high priest went into the palace of the high priest with Jesus.

There was a damsel and she said to Peter, "Art not thou also one of this man's disciples?" He said, "I am not."

The servants and officers standing there made fires of coals to warm themselves as it was cold, and Peter stood with them.

The high priest then asked Jesus asked about his disciples and his doctrine. He told them that he had taught in the synagogue and in the temple and always openly to the world, not in secret.
He asked them why they were asking him, Why not ask those that had heard him what he had said to them for they know what he had said.

Then  one of the officers standing by struck Jesus with the palm of his hand and said, "Is that how you answer the high priest?" Jesus said, "If what I said is said, is wrong, bear witness, but if it right, why did you strike me?"

Simon Peter was still warming himself when someone said, "Are you not one of his disciples?" Again Peter denied it saying he was not.

And then one of the servants of the high priest asked him, "Didn't I see you in the garden with him.?" Peter denied it a third time and immediately the cock crowed.

Then they led Jesus from  the house of Caiaphas to the hall of judgment, and they themselves did not go into the judgement hall because it was early and they did not want to be defiled  or they could not eat the Passover meal.

And so Pilate went out to them and said, "What accusation do you bring against this man?"

Hello Friends. Thanks for coming by today. We find John's version of Jesus death and resurrection does not start off with the plot to kill him or the Last Supper and not even much about Peter's denial Instead, we find him in the garden and even that does not say much about what he went through there. Why are the versions so different?

Perhaps John wasn't with the disciples and Jesus during that time, and was writing just what he had heard. Perhaps as when something happens, there can be many different versions of the same
incident that people go through, maybe this is why.

Whatever the reason, that is one of the questions that I will be trying to find an answer for as John's gospel comes to a close in a few days and we start looking at them. In the mean time, please feel free to do your own study because when you do, I assure you that you can learn many things that you might not other wise know, if you stick to God's word, of course.

Until next time, take care and God bless!

Luke's Account / Questions

THE GOOD NEWS: JESUS Appears To The Women

Why is Luke's account different from Mathew and Mark's account?
Does the factor that he was a doctor really prove that it is different from his medical profession?
Do we know what kind of doctor he was/?

Why not did the other two write about the disciples as they argued about who would be the greatest in God's kingdom?

Why did Jesus call Judas Simon at the last supper in Luke's account?

What was the significance of purse, sandals bag and swords, in Luke 22:35-36, if any?

What did Jesus mean by Luke 22;38?

What was the festival of the unleavened bread and did Jesus celebrate it?

Why didn't Luke mention the incident with the soldier that had his ear cut off?

Judas sold Jesus out for 30 pieces. What was that worth in his day? What would it be worth today?

Why did Luke not mention the naked man wrapped in just linen?

The centurion said in Luke's account that this was truly a righteous man. Did he believe that Jesus was God?

When the Mary's went to the tomb, why were there two men mentioned in his account instead of one like the others had said?

Why did Jesus appear first to women instead of men?

Why didn't the disciples believe them when they told him he was alive?

Hello Friends. I have found some more questions from not only Luke's account, but Mathew and Mark's too, Next up will John's  account. Will his be different in what he wrote about? Come back to find out. Or read John 19 and 20 for yourselves to find out. Have a glorious day in Jesus. Thanks for coming.

Luke's Account of Jesus Death and Resurrection (part 4)

THE SEVEN I AM SAYINGS OF JESUS Have you ever thought about the seven I AM sayings of Jesus? The gospel according to John, there are seven “ I am” sayings of Jesus. And in this paper, I will try to reflect about why did Jesus refer to himself...
Through the eyes of Luke 23-24

Jesus cried with a loud voice saying, "Father into thy hands, I commend my spirit!"  When the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God saying, "Certainly this was a righteous man."

All of Jesus' friends and those women that followed him from Galilee had been watching from a distance. And a man name Joseph who was himself waiting for God's kingdom, went to Pilate asking him for the body of Jesus. He took the body, wrapped it in linen and laid it in a sepulcher which had never before been used. And the women came with spices and ointments to prepare the body.

And then they rested as was according to the Sabbath.

On the first day of the week, they came to the tomb and found the stone had been rolled away. And they entered in and found that Jesus was not there. They were very confused.

But they saw two men standing by them wearing shinning garments and they were afraid. But they said to the women, "Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here but has risen. Remember what he told you when he was in Galilee? He told you that the Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men to be crucified. But then would on the third day, rise again."

The women then remembered what Jesus had told them, and went to tell the eleven and to all the rest. It was Mary Magdalene and Joanna and Mary, the mother of James and other women that were with them which told the apostles the news. But the apostles did not believe them thinking that these were "idle tales."
 you
Peter ran to the tomb to see for himself and found the linen clothes laying by them selves and he began wondering what had happened. And they all talked together about it.

But then Jesus was with them and they didn't know that it was him. And he asked them why they were sad. And a man named  Cleopas said, "Are you the only one in Jerusalem that does not know what has happened?" Jesus said, "What things? And they told him, "About Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet, mighty in deed and word before God and all the people. And how the chief priests crucified him. But it was he who has redeemed Israel and today has been the third day since all this happened.  And certain women of our company surprised us when they went to the sepulcher today and found it empty."

Jesus said, "O fools. Slow of heart to believe all the prophet has spoken. Ought not Christ to have suffered and to enter into his glory?" And beginning with Moses he went back over  the scriptures that told about himself..

They came to the village where they were going but Jesus made it seem as if he was going farther. But they asked him to join them as it was getting towards evening. And so he did, as he sat with them to eat, he took bread and blessed it, and broke it and gave it to them. And that was when they realized that this was Jesus, And then he vanished from their sight.

The next morning they found the eleven and others and said to them, "The Lord has risen indeed." And they told them what had happened. Suddenly Jesus was in their midst and he said, "Peace be with you." And they were terrified, because they thought they were seeing a spirit.. He said, "Why are you troubled. And why do you doubt. Behold, my hands and my feet. Touch me and see that it is I. A spirit does not have flesh and bones." But they still did not believe and so he asked them if they had any meat and they gave him broiled fish. He took it and ate it. And he spoke the words that he was with them when he was still with them, that all things must be fulfilled which had been spoken by Moses and the prophets and in the psalms concerning him. And he opened their understanding so they would understand the scriptures.

He said, "It is written that I had to suffer and to rise the third day. And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all the nations beginning in Jerusalem. And you are witnesses of these things. I send the promises of God on you, but stay in the city of Jerusalem until you are given the power from on high."
He Came Down for Me Jesus coming in the clouds. 11 x 14 PRINT. This is a print of an original painting by me. What does it mean to you personally. Each person will see their own meaning in this print. Some may think of the ascension, others the second coming. Sometimes we need Christ to come down

Then he took them out to Bethany where he raised up his arms and blessed them and while he was doing this, he was lifted up to heaven.  And they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy and were continually in the temple praising and blessing God.

Hello Friends. I pray you had a very blessed Easter. More of Christ and less of the things that would grab our attention away from him and cause us to celebrate bunnies and Easter baskets. Knowing that Jesus gave his life in in such a cruel way, so that one day we would all be able to ourselves be taken to heaven, is the greatest gift of love we can ever receive. Nothing compares to it. But to reject it is damnation to our souls and so we must repent to receive that gift.

This ends Luke's account of the death and Resurrection of Jesus. Next up will be a few questions to think about. Hope you will come back for that. Thanks for coming today and God bless you and yours!

Through the eyes of Luke 23

As they led Jesus away, Simon, a Cyrenian was coming out of the country. They laid the cross that Jesus had been carrying on him. A great company of people followed. Women were among them, bewailing and lamenting Jesus turned to them and told them not to weep for him.. But to weep for themselves and their children. The days were coming in which it would be said, "Blessed are the barren and the wombs that never bare. They will say to the mountains, Fall on us. and to the hills, Cover us. For if they do these things in a green tree, what shall be done in the dry?

Two other malefactors were led with Jesus to be put to death.

When they come to the place called Calvary, they crucified him along with the two malefactors, lne on his right and one on his left. Jesus had said, "Father forgive them, for they know not what they do." They parted his raiment and cast lots.

People standing there, rulers and soldiers mocked him, They said he had saved others, let him save himself if he is the Christ, the chosen of God. The soldiers offered him vinegar to drink. A superscription was written over him in letters of Greek, Latin and Hebrew that said, This is the King of the Jews.

One of the malefactors said to him, "If thou be the Christ, save thyself and us." But the other one answered him saying, "Dost not thy fear God, seeing thou are in the same condemnation? And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward of our deeds. But this man hath done nothing remiss.

And then he said to Jesus, "Lord remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom." And Jesus said, "Verily, I say unto thee, Today thou shall be with me in paradise."

About the sixth hour, darkness came over the land until the nineth hour. And the sun was darkened, and the veil in the temple was rent in two.

And when Jesus cried with a loud voice, , he said, "Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit, and then he gave up the ghost.

Thanks for stopping by today, Friends. I hope you are blessed by God's word! Have a wonderful day and take care!

Luke's Account of the Death and Resurrection of Jesus (part tw0)

Through the eyes of Mark 23

Jesus was led away to face Pilate, by those that were gathered there. They began  accusing him of subverting the nation, opposing  paying Ceasar taxes and claiming to be Messiah, the king

Pilate asked him if he was King of the Jews, to which Jesus said, "You have said so."

But Pilate told the people that he could not find any charges against Jesus. Still they were insistent saying that his teaching was stirring up people all over Judea, which had started in Galilee.

Pilate then found out that Jesus was a Galilean, which was under the jurisdiction of Herod. And when Herod saw Jesus, he was greatly pleased because he had wanted to see Jesus for a long time. He wanted to see a sign of some kind. So he asked many questions, and Jesus did not answer any of them. The chief priests and teachers of the law were all standing there and accusing him. And then Herod and his soldiers started mocking him. They dressed him in a purple robe and sent him back to Pilate, Herod and Pilate had up to this day been enemies, but with this event they became friends.

Pilate told everyone, that neither Herod or himself, could not find any charges against Jesus, and he did not deserve death. And so he was going to punish him and then release him.

But the people shouted to do away with Jesus and let Barabbas go instead. He was a murderer and had been thrown into prison for insurrection in the city.

Pilate still wanted to release Jesus, but the people kept shouting and after appealing to the crowd three times, he relented and releasing Barabbas, he gave him over to them. They had shouted,

"Crucify him! Crucify him!" and they had just been given what they wanted.

Hello Friends. Jesus is now on his way to the cross to die for our sins. It was not just the sins of those people in that crowd that put him there. Yes, it had been foretold in the Old Testament. But it was the sin of those people and all that were to come, that had done it. And that is why it is so important to understand that Jesus gave up his life for all of us. I pray that today as we observe Good Friday, that we keep Christ's death and Resurrection in the forefront of our minds. And I pray that you will have a very blessed day because he is no longer held in his tomb. He is alive! Next up will be his crucifixion. God bless!

Luke's Account of the Death and Resurrection of Jesus (part one)

Tyros Shekel Palestine 100 BC tin replica coin | Antiquanova Judas' 30 Pieces of Silver - Matthew 26:14-15: 'Then one of the 12 called Judas Iscariot went unto the chief priests and said unto them 'What will ye give me and I will deliver him unto you?' And they covenanted with him for 30 pieces of silver....'

Through the eyes of Luke 22

Luke's account of the death and Resurrection of Jesus, is very similar to the other two men. However, it is also a bit different.

In Luke 22, he tells of how the chief priests and teachers of the law wanted to get rid of Jesus because they were afraid of the people. He said that Satan had entered into Judas Iscariot and he went to the chief priests and officers of the temple guard and discussed with them how to do this. They were delighted at what he had to offer them and in return they paid him money to carry it out. And so began the watch for Jesus, so that he could do this.

At the Last Supper, Jesus said to them, "I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover before I suffer. For I tell you, I will not eat it again, until it finds fulfillment in the kingdom of God." After taking the cup, he gave thanks and said, "Take this and divide it among you. For I will tell you not drink from the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes." And he took the bread and broke it and  gave it to them saying, "This is my body given for you, do this in remembrance of me."

After supper, Jesus goes on to explain that this "this cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you. But the hand of him that is going to betray me is with mine on the table. The Son of man will go as it has been decreed. But woe to that man that betrays him!"

The disciples began to question, who that man was going to be. They began to argue who among them would be considered to be the greatest. Jesus told them that the kings of the gentiles and other authorities think they are the greatest. But the disciples were not to be like that. He asked them the question, "Who is greater, the one that sits at the table or the one that serves? It is not the one that sits at the table, but the one that serves. But I am among you as one that serves. You have stood with me by me in my trails. And I confer on you a kingdom, just as my Father conferred one on me, so that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes" of Israel."

Jesus went to say, "Simon, Simon Satan has asked to shift all of you as wheat. But I have prayed for you Simon that your faith not fail and when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers."

Peter then told Jesus that he was ready to go with him to prison and to his death. But Jesus answered saying, "I tell you Peter, before the rooster crows today you will deny me three times."

Jesus asked them if when he sent them out with nothing, did they lack anything. And they said, "nothing." Then he told them if they had a purse and a bag, to take it. And if they didn't have a sword or a cloak, to buy one. He said, "It is written; 'And he was numbered with the transgressors' and I tell you this must be fulfilled in me, Yes, what is written is reaching its fulfillment"

The disciples said, "See Lord, here are two swords."

"That is enough!" he replied.

Thanks for coming by today Friends. The end of Jesus's life over 2000 years ago ended that Good Friday. But life anew for all of us started the day he rose from the stone walls couldn't hold him! Praise God! If you haven't experienced that new life, I encourage you to do right now, You don't have to clean yourself up to have the forgiveness of God. None of us can do that. Just pray the following prayer and you can have the greatest gift ever told! And in the mean time, have a blessed day!  (Please meet here again tomorrow for the next part of Luke's account.)

Mark's Account of the Death and Resurrection of Jesus/ Questions

Bless You

What was the festival of the unleavened bread? Did Jesus participate in that festival?

Was that festival the same as Passover?

What did Jesus mean in Mark 14:27 about smiting the Shepard and scattering the sheep?

Mark mentions a young man that was naked except for a linen cloth, but Mathew had made no mention of him. Was this important to the story they were telling or not? If so, why did Mathew leave it out?

What was meant by the veil of the temple was rent in twain from top to bottom?

Who was the young man that was in the sepulcher when the two Mary's went to anoint Jesus after he had been put there? Was he an angel?

What did Mark mean when he appeared in "another form to two others as they walked in the country? Who were they?

He also appeared to the eleven while they were eating. And then he was recieved up into heaven to sit on the right seat of God. Did he go immediately like Mark had said?

Hi Friends. I present to you some good questions that I came up with in Mark telling what he knew about the death and Resurrection of Jesus. One day soon, maybe we can find the answers. Maybe you already know the answers. Maybe you would like to do your own study. But anyway,  next up will be Luke's writings. Will they be different? Remember, he was the doctor of the day. Thanks for being here and have a great day.

Mark's Account of the Death and Resurrection of Jesus (conclusion)

Through the eyes of Mark 15 & 16

Watching the crucifixion of Jesus was Mary Magdalene and Mary, the mother of James, Joses, and Salome as well as some other women. They had followed him during his ministry and ministered to him. Evening had come and it was the day before the sabbath.

Joseph of Arimathaea had gone to Pilate to request the body of Jesus. Pilate wasn't sure if Jesus was already dead and so he asked the centurion if he was.  When he found out that Jesus was dead,  Pilate gave the body to Joseph.

Joseph wrapped the body in fine linen and laid him in a sepulcher which was made out of rock, and rolled a stone in its front door.

Both Marys's saw where he had been laid. When sabbath had passed, the two Mary's took sweet spices to anoint his body. That morning, the first day of the week, they went there as the sun rose. But they were saying among themselves, "Who will roll the stone away from the door?"

When they got there they saw that the stone had already been rolled away even though it was huge. And so they entered into the sepulcher and saw a young man on the right side, clothed in a long white garment and they became frightened. But he told them not to be frightened and said, "Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth which was crucified; he is risen, he is not here: behold the place where they laid him.
But go your way and tell his disciples and Peter that he goeth before  you into Galilee: there you shall see him, as he said unto you."

The women left quickly, and were frightened but also amazed. They said nothing to anyone.

Jesus appeared to Mary Magnalene whom he had cast out seven devils. And she went and told those that were mourning him that she had been with him. When they heard that he was alive, they did not believe her.

After that he appeared in another form to two of them as they walked in the country. And then he appeared to the eleven as they were eating. And he scolded them because they did not believe that he was alive.

He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be dammed."

After he had spoken to them, he was received up into heaven and sat on the right hand of God.

And his disciples went forth to preach everywhere the Lord working with them, and confirming his word with signs following.

Amen.

Mark's Account of the Death and Ressurection of Jesus (part four)

Through the eyes of Mark 15

The chief priests held council with the elders, and scribes and they bound Jesus and took him to Pilate who asked Jesus, "Art thou King of the Jews?"  Jesus answered, "Thou sayest it."

Pilate asked him again and this time, Jesus did not answer him. Pilate asked him how many things that witness held against him. Again Jesus did not answer him.

Pilate was surprised by this.

At the feast he released one prisoner, whom ever they wanted. There was a prisoner who had committed murder and an uprising in the government.  The people were crying aloud  for Pilate to crucify Jesus, and let the man Barabbas to go free. Pilate knew that the chief priests had persuaded the people to kill Jesus.

And so Pilate wanted to please the people and released Barabbas and then delivered Jesus to be crucified after he had been discouraged.

The soldiers led Jesus away to a hall called Praetorian, where they clothed him in purple and placed a crown of thrones on his head.

And then they began to salute him with , "Hail, King of the Jews!" They hit him on the head with a reed, and spit upon him, and bowing their knees, they worshiped him.

When they had finished mocking him, they took off his purple clothes and put his own back on him.  And led him away to be crucified.
.
And they had Simon, a Cyrenian to carry his cross where they took him to the place called Golgotha, which meant The place of the skull. They gave him wine to drink, mixed with myrrh, but he would not drink it.

When they had crucified him, they parted his garments and cast lots upon them, what every man should take.

The superscription of his accusation was written over, The King of the Jews. They told him to come down off the cross so that they could then believe.

After the 6th hour, darkness covered the land until the 9th hour. And then Jesus cried in a loud voice, " Eloi, Eloi lama sabachthani,  My God, my God, why has thou forsaken me.?"

Some of those standing by heard him call Elias and someone filled a sponge with vinegar and put it on a reed for him to drink and . They wondered if Elias would come to take him down.

But Jesus cried with a loud voice and gave up the ghost. And the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom.

And when the centuruion stood over him saw that he had cried out and gave up the ghost, he said, "Truly, this man was the Son of God."
