Jesus himself taught us about hell in Luke 16:19-31. He described the difference between why the rich man could not go to heaven and why Lazarus did. In verse 31 Jesus made it clear that if people do not receive him before they die, they will go to hell.

In Luke 9:47-48 this is what he has to say:

 47 And if your eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell, 48 where the worms that eat them, do not die and the fire is not quenched.
