Names of God/Abba Father part five

Romans 8: 15-16 Whereby we cry "Abba Father" inspired by the "I Know His Name" Bible Study by Wendy Blight.During his ministry on earth, Jesus had taught his disciples to pray to the Father.  Mathew 6:9-13. However, when he was in Gethsemane praying to God his Father, he addressed him as 'Abba Father.'  (Mark 14:36) It was a time for what seemed to be soul searching. Oh, he knew he would go through with his upcoming crucifixion. That was why he was born. That event was planned from the beginning of the world. But even though he was God's Son, he was human too. Dying on the cross for the sins of the world was not exactly a great cup of tea. And yet, because it was something that would save people from our sin, he did it because he loved us. It was a time that we can sort of relate to today in our world when our child is hurt and runs to their father for comfort. Many dads and moms alike would give up their lives to save their child if they had to. Children  call their dads 'Daddy.' Because that is what the name means, Daddy Father. It is a name that suggests endearment. One that means a trusting childlike relationship between a father (Father) and son (Son).

Romans 8:15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. (KJV)Besides his prayer in Gethsemane that night, however, Jesus used the name two more times. "And because you are sons, God has sent the spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying Abba Father!" Galatians 4:6 and "For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear but you have received the adoption as sons by whom we cry, Abba Father!" Romans 8:15.

My son and his wife are adopting two siblings that have come from a bad family situation where the parents have given up their rights of them. Those children can choose to call their new father, Daddy if they would like to because once the adoption is final they have the right to do so.

"Though my father and mother forsake me, the #Lord will receive me."- Psalm 27:10 NIV #bible #charity Only when we have accepted Jesus as our Lord, we also have the right to call God, Abba (Daddy) Father. We trust him just like hopefully we grew up trusting our own daddy. For those that did not get this privilege because something was wrong in their relationship with their earthly dad, once they are saved by the blood of Jesus Christ who died for them they too have the right to call God Daddy. He is their heavenly Dad and Father who loves and cares for them and all who comes to him.

We are adopted at that time into God's family and kingdom. What a great blessing we have to be considered the sons and daughters of the God of the heavens. To be counted among those who sits at his table with all our sisters and brothers in Christ, someday in the future. To be able to one day see him face to face and call him Daddy! What a blessing is ours that he loved us that much!
