How do we renew our minds? It is not by sitting in front of a tv screen for hours watching mindless programming or playing video games for endless hours. It is not by spending money going to sports events or surfing the internet.
Sure those things can be enjoyable entertainment. But in our everyday activities, we must spend time with God to renew our minds by reading his word to find out what is his will. What is good. What is acceptable. What is perfect. Because frankly, we aren't always going to get much of that in the world. There has to be a better way. And that is in God's word.
In one of my previous blogs, I told of a bible study we went to years ago in the home of some friends that we knew. The husband led it and he likened our minds to that of a cassette player one time. You can record something on a cassette but then if you decide to replace it, you can hit the rewind button and record something over it.
Letting God do that by renewing our minds with his word is about the same thing. Taking out what is sinful and replacing it with what is not. Allowing him to do that is being obedient to him. But it does take sacrifice on our part. Sacrifice in giving up some of our entertainment time to be in his word.
And when we do that, he brings blessings into our lives. The question is, how much time are we willing to give him?
O God you are my God: early will I seek you. My soul thirsts for you. My flesh longs for you in a dry and thirsty land where there is no water. Psalm 63:1
Jesus went early in the morning to pray to his Father. He spent the nights praying. Mark 1:35, Luke 5:16, 6;12, and Mathew 14:23
Obedience. Spending time with God in his word and in prayer. Another way to blessing. Yes, indeed. Jesus does not call us to do something that he himself was not willing to do. The question is, will we do it?
