What if I Am Like the Prodical Son? (conclusion)

....."What language shall I borrow To thank Thee, Dearest Friend,.....For this, Thy dying sorrow, Thy pity without end? ...Oh, make me Thine forever; and should I fainting be,...Lord, let me never, never. Outlive my love for Thee."........Bernard of Clairvaux (1091-1158). The Trinity Hymnal

The question is: What happens to those that follow Christ and then for some reason, they turn away from him and go their own way? Do they lose their salvation?

First, if we truly accept Christ as our personal Savior there is nothing that can separate us from him.  But, if a person was not sincere in asking God's forgiveness, well let us just say that is a dangerous position to be in any way.

Why? Because if we were not sincere, our sins were not forgiven and we are not under the protection of God.

At the point of true salvation, our names are entered into the Lambs Book of Life.  For those whose names are not found there, they will be thrown into the lake of fire. Revelation 20:15.

God knows we are human. He knows that in this life there are many times when we are tempted to do things that are not good for us. Even the Apostle Paul struggled with doing wrong when it was his desire to do right. He knew that evil was with him that would tempt him to do wrong. Romans 7:21.

He wants none of us to perish. He is patient and longsuffering, wanting all to come to him asking forgiveness. 2 Peter 3:9. And when we have truly repented he does pursue those that love him so that they might return to his fold.

The Prodigal Son is really a look at the true mercy and love of God. We, as his children can go off on our own way at times. Is that ok? No. It does not give us an excuse to do so. The Prodigal Son had a choice. Stay in his fathers home and he would never have to worry about having what he needed. Or take his inheritance and go off on his own way, only to end up in the pig pen of life.

Yet, when he came to his senses and realized what he did was getting him nowhere but with the pigs, he went back to ask his father's forgiveness. And this is what we as born-again Christians can have confidence in. His father, who kept looking for him was ecstatic when at last his son came back to him. Just as God would be when we have turned from him and then go back to him asking his forgiveness.

We too have that choice. Follow Christ and reap the blessings he has for us, or do not follow him and we can bring trouble on our lives.

Our hope is in God. It is in the fact that no one or nothing can separate us from his love. Even when we have turned away to do our own thing. He may even cause circumstances at times to bring us back to him because he loves us. But it is only for our own good. It is never to hurt us.

Thanks for coming by today Friends. God bless you an all those around you. Pass your blessings on. Especially to those that need it!
